Tools & Techniques

 

This course is geared towards those who have no experience working in clay. Over the 6-week course we will explore the 5 major techniqes of hand-building. 

 

Each 2.5 hour class includes a demonstration and an "assignment" to use that new technique in a design of your choice. Two classes focus on painting techniques. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 1- Pinch Pots

Using our hand and thumb, we will create these palm sized bowls and cups. Organic and smaller in size, these pieces are the beginnings of seeing in clay. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 2 - Coil Building

Learning to roll coils and to build with them creates larger pieces. In this class we will create either a vase, a mug, or a planter.

Class 3 - Surface Decoration

In this class we will use our previous 2 pieces to explore the fundamentals of surface design. We will play with: wax, sponging, color, scaffitto (carving), wiping and more. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 4 - Slab Building

A favorite of the studio, you will learn to use the slab roller to roll out flat sheets of clay to build with. In this class we will make either a box or a vase. 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 5 - Sculpting

Learning to sketch in clay is a sill we will use to then create a larger size and more fully formed animal out of clay. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Class 6 - Surface Decoration 

This last class of the series will be to finish up the previous work and to paint and glaze the work.

No experience necessary.

Potters Wheel
 

Private lessons on the wheel are available to those with no previous experience or who want to refresh their skills. 

 

200 nis per 1 hour lesson

250for 1.5 hour lesson

non-registered individual 

 

Includes materials and firing.
